I’m very aware that this is a tender and vulnerable time and I’m always honored to be a part of your journey. Here’s a guide to how we spend our time together.

I block out two hours for our very comprehensive appointment. We don’t always use the whole two hours but it’s there if we need it. It’s great to have a hungry-ish baby when I get there. This means we’ll have a little time to talk and then work on feeding. I look inside your baby’s mouth for any tongue-ties and have her suck on my gloved finger to check her suck. I bring my baby scale to get a baseline weight and then a weight after feeding so we can see how much your baby ate. I love questions so please have a list of questions and topics for us to discuss. They don’t all have to be about feeding. They can be about normal baby behavior, your self-care and mental health, and because I’m a registered nurse I can talk about medications and doctor’s appointments. It’s up to you!

I’ve been working with new families for over 25 years. I know that every situation is different. Therefore, I don’t use a cookie-cutter approach. Instead, I help you make a plan that will work for you and your family. Please feel free to ask me anything and if I don’t know the answer, I’ll either find it out or refer you to someone who does. After our appointment, I write a report and fax it to your baby’s doctor. This allows us to work as a team to make sure you and your baby are getting the best care possible. If you’d rather I don’t send a report, just let me know. You might think of more questions after I leave or maybe the plan needs to change a little. As part of my care, you can call me or email me for two weeks after our consultation at no additional charge. Please know that phone calls and emails don’t replace a follow-up appointment. It’s usually better to tweak the plan or reinforce what you learned by doing another in-person consultation.

How much does all this cost and is this covered by my insurance?

I have a base fee and charge extra for any appointments more than 15 miles away. But I’ll go anywhere!  Please call or email me  for my fee. I collect my fee at the end of our appointment and give you an invoice with all the codes you need so you can send it into your insurance company for any reimbursement. If getting reimbursed is important to you, I suggest you call your insurance company before our appointment.
